Manufacturer issued with immediate prohibition notice from the HSE

Orwell Pine Limited, in 497-499 Wherstead Road, has been issued with the notice after they failed to provide adequate guarding on dangerous machinery.

Due to the nature of the notice from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Orwell Pine can only have the notice suspended if a tribunal permits it.

The HSE said: “You have failed as an employer to ensure that effective measures are taken to prevent access to the dangerous parts of the Altendorf WA8 Panel Saw.”

When detailing the issues, the HSE said: “The operators hand holding the work piece support is in very close proximity to the circular saw blade.

“The technique involves the operator shuffling around the blade and then switching the hand holding the work piece support.

“All of these issues present a foreseeable risk of the operators hands coming into contact with the rotating saw blade.”

The HSE issue an immediate prohibition notice when there is risk of serious personal injury.
